The New Hobbit Trailer Is One Hell Of A Nostalgia Trip

Here is the trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, complete with a throwback to one of the best moments in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King—Pippin's song. CHILLS.

Leave it to Peter Jackson to end his newest three-part Lord of the Rings epic with a callback to his last three-part Lord of the Rings epic. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is out this December, and will end the trilogy—and Jackson's adventures in Middle-earth—for good. At least until the Simarillion trilogy.

Okay here's my thing: This trailer shows a lot of action, but the one thing that makes it cool/remarkable is the song from Return of the King, aka The Most Emotionally Devastating Depiction of Sloppy Tomato-Eating In Cinematic History.

The second Hobbit movie was so paralyzingly bad that I bailed on it 2/3rds of the way through. All I see here is a bunch more slick CGI-enhanced fighting. Is there any reason to think this movie will be less awful than the second one? It won't even have a dragon.
