The latest developer diary for Splash Damage's Brink gives us a peek into the minds behind the game, and what happens when those minds get their hands on high-powered sniper rifles.
One of the main downsides to working in video game journalism is the absence of good excuses to fly out to Nevada and fire off a few rounds with a sniper rifle. I'm sure the odd occasion does arise, but for the most part, my life is pretty much sniper rifle free, at least the portion not spent online playing first-person shooters.
It's interesting in this day and age to see folks actually generating their own sounds in a game like Brink. There's plenty of easily modifiable sound product out there, and going to the trouble of making someone run in place to capture footsteps just shows how much love the creators have for the project.
Or an excuse to fire sniper rifles.
