The King Of Kong Director Is Launching A WarGames Reboot

Global Thermonuclear War is coming back to the big screen courtesy of the man who brought a battle between two Donkey Kong high score warriors to film. Seth Gordon, director of 2007's The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters is re-directing WarGames.

Deadline reports that Gordon is tackling a reboot for MGM of the 1983 movie in which a teenage hacker breaks into what he thinks is a video game company's computer network, but turns out to be a U.S. military supercomputer. Global nuclear war almost ensues.

The original film spawned a Colecovision game in 1983 and in 1998 was the basis for WarGames: DEFCON 1, a game for the PC and PlayStation. The Cold War thriller also had a sequel of sorts, WarGames 2: The Dead Code, which no one saw in 2008.

The original WarGames showcased simple PC games, including checkers, chess and the fictional Falken's Maze. Who wants to place some bets that MMOs and first-person shooters, all running on the WOPR 360, will replace them in the reboot?
