The Great Checkpoints Versus Saving Anywhere, Anytime Debate

We may earn a commission from links on this page.

Commenter MtlAngelus doesn't like checkpoints in video games, preferring a system that allows players to save anywhere at any time. Which is better? You decide in today's Speak-Up on Kotaku.

I hate checkpoints. I love being able to save whenever I want.

If there's a point of the game that I really like, I want to be able to save right before it, and keep that save file around for whenever I want to experience that portion of the game again. If there game has multiple paths\endings, I want to be able to save right before a course altering decision.

What's so wrong about letting me choose when to save my game? It makes the game less challenging? SO WHAT. Let me choose how I want to play the game. It only makes for a better experience...
