The power of the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Network will bring you a brand new Tetris later this year, thanks to Electronic Arts, a high-def version of the frantic puzzle classic stuffed with new ways to play.
Tetris for PlayStation Network brings "crisp 1080p high-definition (HD) graphics, high-quality 5.1 surround sound audio" and a robust set of online multiplayer modes to the '80s classic, some of which may seem like overkill for a 2D puzzle game that plays just as great on a Game Boy. But hey, we're not complaining, especially since some of the online modes seem so interesting.
According to EA's announcement, Tetris for PlayStation Network will have online and local multiplay for up to six Tetris fiends. There's even a "Shared" mode that lets two players clear lines in the same Tetris matrix. Online battle modes, include a 2v2 team-based version, and local "Marathon" play for up to four players may actually make this the "definitive Tetris experience" that EA promises.
Expect Tetris for PlayStation Network to his the PlayStation Store in December.
