Luigi Isn’t The Only Troll In The New Mario Kart
Luigi might be a cold, calculating jerk in the new Mario Kart, but he’s not the only one with a goofy stare. Almost everyone flashes a hilarious look just before messing someone else up, as the replay mode in Mario Kart 8 shows us. Donkey Kong, for example, is a major troll: (Via Atomic6) Yoshi…

First Person Smash Bros. Is Just As Gruesome As You Might Think
Dodging and edge-hogging would be 100% more dramatic in Smash Bros. with a first-person view. YouTuber pipocaVFX gives us a sneak-peek featuring Link, the Master Hand and a scary third special someone at the end. We’re lucky that the clip is not from Super Smash Bros. Wii U. I just don’t want to see Animal…

The Explanation Behind Sonic’s New Look
About three weeks ago in a hotel in Los Angeles, I got to play four levels of the upcoming Sonic Boom. It felt like good family fun: fairly easy combat, some trickier platforming, and a little bit of that iconic Sonic speedrunning through rings. You can watch Game Front’s footage of what I played on…

Final Fantasy Characters As Pokémon Trainers
With a little redesign, Final Fantasy characters would make pretty cool Pokémon trainers. You just have to find the matching Pokémon for them. Artist Andrew Ryan did just that. Gotta love Barrett with his Pokéball launcher arm. Here are the characters from Final Fantasy VIII, with the same design: And the characters of Final Fantasy…

Does E3 Still Matter?
It’s been a weird pre-E3 month. Companies like Microsoft, EA, and Bethesda have made big announcements before the big show. Nintendo’s not even doing an official press conference at all. Is there still a point to E3? Or has it become a walking, talking, slowly dying dinosaur? It’s been a sort of inevitable question among…

ReviewsMario Kart 8: The Kotaku Review
“Everyone has fond memories of the Mario Kart series” reads a blurb in the review materials for the eighth game in the series. Up until now, I really didn’t. Mario Kart was never my game. When Super Mario Kart was released for North American Super Nintendo systems in 1992, I was already in love with…

“Victory and defeat are just lies told out of two sides of the same mouth. This is the Blue Shell of collapse, the Blue Shell of financial crisis, the Blue Shell of the New Gilded Age.” That’s game designer/academic Ian Bogost on the most hated and feared pick-up in the Mario Kart series. His essay…

Watch Dogs Is Finally About Watching Dogs
Just as Lightning doesn’t return Final Fantasy XIII, there’s no way to watch dogs in Watch Dogs even though the title suggests it. Mashed fix this with their latest animation. It would be… an interesting game. Watch Dogs | Mr Weebl | MASHED [YouTube] To contact the author of this post, write to: [email protected]

If Only Nintendo Made Wii U Controllers This Nice
Nintendo has released some pretty nice Wii Remotes in recent years, but their Wii U controller lineup is nowhere near as eye-catching. Continuing the work they’ve done with the Xbox One and PS4, then, here’s Evil Controllers with a line of custom Wii U Pro Controllers. Some are in custom colours, others skirt dangerously close…

Nintendo’s Family Tree Is Massive
Nintendo is 125 years old, and they’ve been making games since before arcades as we know them even existed. You build up quite a family tree in all that time, and someone traced all of it, back to the start. Vin Lauria is a freelance graphic designer who also has a fondness for history and…

You Can Download a Mercedes Benz in Mario Kart 8
This summer, Mercedes Benz is coming to Mario Kart 8 in Japan. No word yet whether or not the car will be available in the West. The Mercedes Benz GLA, which a sorta hunky Mario drives in a new Japanese ad, will be available as free DLC. Info is scant, but Nintendo promises more details.…
