We finally made it folks: The Switch 2 reveal is just days away. At least that’s what insiders are now claiming. It’s about time.

Podcaster NateTheHate, who has a long track record of sharing credible industry leaks, said the long-awaited announcement of Nintendo’s successor to the Switch will happen on January 16. ā€œI can share with you right now that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week,ā€ he said on the latest episode of his show. ā€œI have been told the Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16.ā€

NateTheHate said he’s heard the reveal will focus almost exclusively on the console itself, with no real ā€œfocusā€ on what software will run on the Switch 2. So rather than get a look at the Switch 2 and, say, a new 3D Mario game, Nintendo is planning to only share information about the hardware itself, according to the insider. VGC reports that this two-part reveal aligns with its heard, and The Verge’s Tom Warren also says he heard the reveal would be this week.

January 16 lines up with a previous rumor from someone called Average Lucia Fanatic. They had previously correctly predicted the PS5 Pro and Nintendo Alarmo reveals, and claimed earlier this month that the Switch 2 announcement would happen on January 17. Average Lucia Fanatic went onto claim the full console would be released by March, with Mario Kart 9 and Red Dead Redemption 2 as launch games. NateTheHate suggested a hardware launch would come closer to May or June.

Whether these are rumors based on actual sources or just reasonable guesses, this week certainly feels ripe for a Switch 2 announcement. We’re just coming off a bananas CES 2025 conference swirling with messy rumors and 3D printed mock-ups of the console, with Nintendo’s lawyers even allegedly confronting one Switch 2 accessory manufacturer over its unofficial renders of the upcoming device shared on the showroom floor.

Nintendo has already promised to reveal the console before April. A Switch 2 announcement this week would also give Microsoft an opening to announce ports of its games to the console during its Developer Direct showcase later this month. And if the Switch 2 somehow doesn’t get revealed by the end of the week, I can only imagine how much worse the leaks will get after that.
