During these last few weeks of August, the weather has been strange in Japan. Seemingly every evening, it's been raining with lightning storms. Several folks have snapped photos of lightning striking. The result is truly odd.

The photos show beams of light. Online in Japan, people are saying the images look like something out of an anime—like in pretty much every sci-fi anime ever.

In the West, there are already conspiracy theories over the meaning of the light beams, and those pointing out that similar beams were seen over Japan after last year's earthquake.

These images, however, could've been created by a camera phone glitch—apparently. A similar explanation was given for the beam of light spotted earlier this year over a Mayan pyramid.
