So what does RPG giant Square Enix have in store for E3 2008? Why RPGs, of course. The publisher's lineup doesn't come as a surprise to anyone who's been following the company since last E3. Starting on the portable side of things they'll be showing the remake Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS, along with Dragon Quest: Chapters of the Chosen and the Final Fantasy IV remake, with the PSP represented by their two Star Ocean remakes First Departure and Second Evolution. In console land we'll get a look at Xbox 360 exclusives Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean: The Last Hope, as well as The Last Remnant for the 360 and PlayStation 3. Topping things off will be Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes, the company's new iPod game.

Also represented will be two DS titles from Square Enix subsidiary Taito, EXIT DS and The Legend of Kage 2.

Notice anything missing here? Not one mention of any of the Final Fantasy titles for the PlayStation 3. This could mean there is something special in store from PS3 FF fans, or it could simply mean they aren't showing anything, which would make me very sad. Nightshift Nurse

@Rebochan: "...I've been hearing..." *yawn* "...Final Fantasy 13..." *snore* "...Xbox 360..." *drool* "...Playstation 3 losing exclusives..." *wah! fluffer-nutter!*

Seriously, how long do we have to hear this stupid bullshit? What's the cut-off for rumor and speculation (read: fanboyish hopes and dreams) on a title which is released for the PlayStation 3 and subsequently doesn't appear on the 360? Until there's an official statement by the developer there is n truth to any rumor.

I recall an idiot Gamestop employee selling a 360 to a gullible customer based entirely on his assertion that Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13 had been "confirmed" for the system. I later asked the employee why he was spewing that load of crap and he sited the same groundless internet speculation as proof. The saddest part was that he actually believed this to be just as valid as any official word. That was a year ago. We know what's happend, or more importantly, what hasn't happened since then.

I've occasionally wondered if that customer is still keeping a hopeful eye out for Metal Gear and Final Fantasy. I've also wondered if he's subsequently come to regret his purchase. Hell, I've even wondered if his 360 still works.

The point is, you're setting yourself up for months, possibly years of disappointment if you keep buying in to every rumor that comes along about these games. Because frankly the 360 isn't doing nearly well enough world wide to continue assuming that it will simply syphon off any and every desirable exclusive.
