E3 2009 is getting a massive dose of Square Enix next week. The company is bringing along a few games you might expect—Final Fantasy XIII, Dissidia Final Fantasy—and some brand new games.

That includes the newly announced NIER, a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 action adventure from developer cavia. According to official Square Enix word, the game is "set in a crumbling world plagued by disease and dark, unrecognizable creatures." Players will control the titular NIER, as he searches for a cure for his daughter armed with a "mysterious book."

The game is planned for a 2010 release, but we'll be talking to the game's producer Yosuke Saito in advance of that far off date. Here's your first look.

Also confirmed for E3 is Front Mission Evolved, the latest in Square Enix's mech series, which has a new genre (it's a third-person shooter) and a new developer (Double Helix). The wanzer-filled action game is coming to the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
