Tom Holland, the current face of Spider-Man, is a busy guy this month. Not only is Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiering later this month, but Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey is out this week as well. In addition to all that, he’s also appearing in a documentary on the history of the Wall-Crawler called Generations: The Evolution of Spider-Man on Disney+, and in it he says one thing about the upcoming MCU film that has sent fans on a speculation spree.

In the documentary, Holland talks about the movie’s title, Brand New Day. At first blush, the title seems to refer to Peter Parker’s life after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which everyone in the world was forced to forget him by a Doctor Strange spell. Now he’s trying to find his footing as a superpowered loner saving the day for the people he loves, even if they have no idea who he is. However, Holland has teased (thanks, IGN) that the title may have a double meaning.

“The ‘Brand New Day’ of this movie, it isn’t the beginning,” Holland said. “It’s the last frame of this movie.”

Marvel fans are now grasping at whatever straws they can to figure out what it might mean. With rumors about how the film ends being circulated by supposed insiders and leakers ahead of the movie’s premiere, some folks are trying to fit Holland’s words onto the details of that rumored ending. Obviously we don’t know if this is how Brand New Day will end, but if you want to be completely unspoiled with no ideas or preconceived notions, stop scrolling.

Spoiler Warning

“Just finished [the documentary], and I feel like it low-key teased the whole ‘Symbiote revives Peter out of the grave’ ending,” a redditor wrote, referring to the details of the aforementioned leaked ending. “At the end of the documentary, Tom Holland says that ‘The brand new day of this movie, it isn’t the beginning. It’s the last frame of this movie,’ and then it ends with the scene of Peter’s black eyes.

And I know a lot of people thought that ending was debunked due to [film account] Cryptic’s ‘semi-happy ending’ tweet, but I feel like there are A LOT of ways for this film to do Peter’s ‘death’ and still end things on a semi-happy note.”

Some are instead attaching it to things we’ve already seen in the trailers, including Peter’s new powers which fans have speculated may be a play on the Man-Spider storyline from the comics.

“Or maybe that’s just Peter fully embracing all the changes in his body that happened due to the mutation he went through in this movie, meaning that these changes are in fact permanent, and fully accepting that his life isn’t going to be the same anymore and that he needs to move on from his past life that he won’t be able to fully restore atp,” another redditor responds.

Whatever happens at the end of Spider-Man: Brand New Day will likely have ramifications for the character’s future in the MCU. Holland is not confirmed to reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday this December, but he could still show up in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is set to premiere in 2027. In any case, odds are that whatever happens to Peter, we’ll be seeing him again soon. Unless…he dies and they replace him with Miles Morales in the MCU and the “brand new day” is that there’s another Spider-Man swinging around NYC. Great, another possibility to add to the pile.
