Game designer Denis Dyack, who labored on action game Too Human for years, thinks that social gaming is a bubble waiting to burst: "The trend that I see is it's probably going to be one of the biggest bubbles and explosions that our industry's seen in a long time and I think when it crashes it's going to crash very hard." [IndustryGamers]
Remember, of course, the three rules of bubbles, of which this certainly is one:
1) If you're an investor, never bet against a bubble. It'll just chew you up and spit you out.
2) Bubbles are inherently unstable. What comes up must come down, and it'll likely come down much faster than it came up.
3) Bubbles are inherently insane. It could go up a lot more before anything goes down.
Not to say that there won't be social games around after the bubble bursts, but there is a whole "dot-com" sense about this all over again.
