Just like Nintendo's handheld games console, Sony's PlayStation Portable is doing it tough these days, sales of the machine down 50% from what they were at this time last year.
Sony handed in its Q2 2010 financial results today, and while the PlayStation 3 enjoyed a slight increase in sales over the three-month period that was Q2 2009 (3.5 million consoles sold, up from 3.2 million), the PSP tanked, going from three million last year to only 1.5 million sold over the same timeframe this year.

To put that in perspective, the PlayStation 2 sold as many units despite being over ten years old, and for 2010 as a whole has actually outsold the PSP by 100,000 units.
Sounds like a PSP2 is just the thing the doctor ordered!
