Pokémon Platinum, Infinite Undiscovery Storm Japan

Pokémon fever? Still burning with the heat of the sun in Japan. As previously reported, the latest, Pokémon Platinum, sold almost a million copies in its first week of release. We're not surprised. Sales of the game probably helped those of Quiz Magic Academy, another solid debut for the Nintendo DS. The week's other big shot is Square Enix's Infinite Undiscovery, which bowed with 90K units sold in Japan, helping the Xbox 360 outsell its console competitors for the week. The RPG's release probably helped stoke sales of Tales of Vesperia too, which reappears on this week's Media Create sales chart after a week off. 01. Pokemon Platinum (DS) - 963,000 / NEW 02. New Super Mario Bros... I really shouldn't be surprised by the staying power of that one, but every week it shocks me anew. 3 years now? In America and Japan...

It's great and all, but who hasn't owned and/or beaten that game by now that would ever want to? Are they handing it out with birth certificates? It's not even as big as Super Mario World, or anything.

PS—I'm glad Japan has 'rejected' these HD consoles. I find that charming and noble in some way...
