PGA Tour 2K21 is in the works. Today Take-Two revealed a teaser for the officially licensed game, developed by HB Studios, makers of The Golf Club 2019. More news is coming May 14. Until then, hooray for golf video games.

Hm. I bought The Golf Club 2019 Featuring the PGA Tour on a whim when it was on sale on Steam. I hadn’t played a golf game for about a decade, and I was pumped for something that might offer a half-hour escape here and there... but I wasn’t impressed. The physics seemed wonky... I didn’t mind the swing mechanics, but the physics of ball spin and shot shape seemed weird. Play-by-play was fucking horrible (I know, not a make-or-break thing, but this stuff was clearly recorded by someone with no experience, and some of the lines seemed to have been written by someone with no golfing experience). And career mode was laughably shallow, and the integration of the PGA Tour brand seemed half-assed at best, though I know it was kind of an add-on license to an existing game—but that showed, very obviously.

The course editor was awesome, though. And hopefully the fact that this is actually called PGA Tour means they’ll integrate better. But still. My experience with their last offering doesn’t make me super-excited for this one.
