PAL PlayStation Store Update: Pata Pata PS1 Games

It's a common complaint from PAL users that the Euro/Aussie PlayStation Store is slow to update. But there's one bright spot. At least you get a steady flow of PlayStation 1 games!

Sure, they're mostly garbage, but it's a start. This week, Street Skater 2 and Hi-Octane are available, most likely as cover for the fact there's precious little else on offer for PS3 owners outside the standard DLC fare (I could have sworn Watchmen, though listed for this week, came out last week).

But PSP owners? There's a Patapon 2 demo available! Or, if you're feeling indulgent, you can download the whole game.

it really baffles me why sony hasn't tried milking the hell out of the possibilities that PS1 games on the PlayStation Store brings. i understand that the process is probably a bit more complicated than many of us realize, but i can fire up xbl right now and get SEVERAL high quality xbox originals if i wanted. can't say the same about the playstation store, there aren't many PS1 titles and the ones that are there aren't the best of the bunch.

oh and as a side note...would it be possible at ALL for them to release PS2 games on the store? i understand most PS3s aren't backwards compatible for the discs, but would it be technically possible to do this with a direct to drive mechanism of some sort? cause if sony figures that out, then THAT'S a goldmine waiting to happen for them. i sold my PS2 to get a PS3, and since i knew the PS3 i was getting wasn't backwards compatible i sold my games too. but if they figured out a way to get PS2 games you downloaded from the store to work, well hell i'd probably rebuy half my original library.

honestly, i just wanna play shadow of the colossus again...
