It's hard work seeing many ways in which Wii U games can best those found on consoles from 2005-06, at least visually, but there's one area the Wii U is trumping Microsoft and Sony's machines: power consumption.

Despite packing a complex tablet-like controller, the Wii U draws roughly half the power of its current-gen competitors, often less than half, which... well, it should save you a few bucks on your power bill if you're a serious user.

Here are the findings, from a series of tests performed by Digital Foundry:

Why so low? The console's relative lack of CPU power means its using less power there, while increases in design efficiency and smaller chip sizes also play their part.

The consumption is so low, in fact, that DF theorise Nintendo could release a battery pack for the console, as bizarre as that sounds.

Lack of CPU power as proven by what? If we are going to openly accept gossip as fact, I'd like to start rumors about Kotaku...
