Toshihiro Nagoshi, creator and developer of the Super Monkey Ball franchise, started envisioning how his game would work on the Nintendo 3DS from the moment he saw the handheld's features.

Super Monkey Ball was there for the launch of the Wii. There was a version for the Wii balance board. It was there when the iPhone app store started selling games, and returned for the iPad. So of course there's going to be a version of the game for the Nintendo 3DS. Toshihiro Nagoshi has played it with his mind.

"The moment I saw the features of the Nintendo 3DS, I could not help thinking how perfectly Super Monkey Ball would work on this new hardware. I could quickly picture myself holding the Nintendo 3DS using the motion sensor and playing Super Monkey Ball. The simple gameplay allows players to enjoy the 3D graphics to the fullest and now that we have brought this vision to life…bingo! We have our all-time favourite Super Monkey Ball experience with the new excitement of the Nintendo 3DS!"

This latest entry into the ever-expanding Super Monkey Ball franchise will allow players to use the slide screen or the 3DS motion sensor to navigate AiAi and the gang through tons of winding puzzles. It will feature three new gameplay choices: single player puzzles, Monkey Race, and Monkey Fight.

Any game with a monkey Fight mode is okay in my book.

Super Monkey Ball for the 3DS will be out sometime next year, because if it came out this year we'd have nothing to play it on.

Edit: Corrected Toshihiro Nagoshi's name. Sega's press release listed him as "Toshiro Nagoshi."
