Coming in 2015 to PC, Mac, iOS and Android, Chronicle: RuneScape Legends is a collectible card game based on a long-running massively multiplayer role-playing game. Crazy, right?
The Hearthstone vibe is strong, sure, but the game's concept sounds quite different than Blizzard's highly successful dueling card game. Chronicles will be a quest-building game, where players use cards to construct what are essentially mini role-playing games to throw at their enemies. The whole thing plays out in a living book populated by familiar RuneScape locations and creatures, including boss monsters.
"We've been quietly developing Chronicle: RuneScape Legends since the start of the year to ensure that it's not only a fun and compelling player experience, but one still very much interwoven into the rich lore of RuneScape," said Chronicle lead designer James Sweatman following the game's debut at this weekend's RuneFest in London. "We're looking forward to sharing more information on the game over the coming months, especially in regards to Chronicle's debut on tablet and mobile!"
Is Jagex attempting to capture the overwhelming success Blizzard saw with Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft? Maybe? I honestly do not care. I crave card-based interactive entertainment, and I care not from whence it comes.
