Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Goes Another Round

CyberConnect2 is back with a follow-up to the gorgeous but shallow Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, slapping on the Shippuden label and letting Xbox 360 owners in on the fun.

The PlayStation 3 exclusive Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm wowed players with its gorgeous, cartoon-quality cell-shaded graphics, but when compared to the PS2 Ultimate Ninja series, with its wealth of characters and storylines, it ultimately came up far short of perfection. The latest PS2 game contained twice as many playable characters and much more content, leaving players of the PS3 game hungry for more.

Now CyberConnect2 and Namco Bandai are bringing us more with Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2, bringing the series into the slightly more mature Shippuden era. The game promises a comprehensive character lineup, along with new features and enhancements, which already sounds a great deal better than the first title. The game will prominently feature the criminal Akatsuki clan, with a story twist that features Sasuke donning Akatsuki garb.

I'm relatively excited. The outstanding visuals from the first are intact, and as long as we get some more characters and a deeper storyline, we should be in for a pretty good ride.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 will be released this fall.

I have to wonder if this is going to sell. Haven't anime fans pretty much moved on from Naruto to Bleach or some other shonen "fight of the week" series by now?

The original didn't perform too spectacularly at retail, if I remember right.
