The owner of Ensemble Studios and publisher of the upcoming Halo Wars has confirmed that the developer will be closing down once work on the Xbox 360 title is complete. In a statement to GameSpot, Microsoft said that the closure of the Dallas-based studio "does not reflect at all on Ensemble's talent or the quality of Halo Wars," adding that the team has made "invaluable contributions to the games industry with their Age of Empires and Age of Mythology games." Microsoft calls the choice "a fiscally rooted decision that keeps MGS on its growth path."

While Ensemble will see closure come launch date, the statement further explains that a "leadership team" from the studio will form a brand new development entity one that will continue to support Halo Wars post launch and work on unspecified Microsoft Game Studios titles.

Those let go from the studio may find a home at the newly formed, as Microsoft stated it was "working to place as many Ensemble employees who do not move to the newly formed studio into open positions within Microsoft as possible."

Good luck to all involved.

So they've muddied Rare, lost Bungie and now have dissolved Ensemble? Quite the track record!

@PaulHunter: Don't forget losing second parties like Bizarre and Bioware, and then FASA being drove into the ground.

Hold on Ladies... WTF? MS muddied Rare? What was rare doing before they were bought? Nothing. So being bought somehow 'muddied' Rare? Bungie did their best work under the MS label and after making a bajillion dollars- MS let them be their own entity again rather than force them to stay with MS. Pretty effing cool I thought. And Ensemble being restructured into a new name and smaller company is just new news- who knows why. But to say that somehow it's a bad thing without knowing the future details...? That's a big... quick on the conclusion wagon isn't it?

How do you 'loose' a second party? The second parties in question were gobbled up by the EA monster- that's somehow MS's fault- because they didn't buy them first and then have everyone bitching about how MS buys everybody- talk about a 'can't win for loosing' situation with you people!

And one last note- FASA deciding to acquire the Shadowrun license and shit on it with some stupid multiplayer only FPS was FASA's choice! NOT MS's!

God- I sound like some MS fanboy- which I'm absolutely not- but when I see so many comments that are just blatantly bias to the point of sounding stupid- it makes me just have to say something. Carry on.
