Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai just revealed a new playable costume for Samus that shows more skin than the Zero Suit. Perhaps to head off criticism, he emphasized that a female designer was involved:

Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this… That's what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time. From the ending of Metroid: Zero Mission, here's Samus in shorts!

This is a screenshot from the 3DS version of the game:

The skimpy costumes are based on Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission:

What the actual fuck are they thinking? Samus is one of my favorite female characters because she has never needed to show off skin.

This serves no purpose other than to take yet another step back for her character. Zero suit was moderately justified to introduce a newer generation to her face and verify for those unfamiliar with her that Samus was female. This though...

NEWSFLASH NINTENDO: People that want to see Samus wearing less can just go to the internet. They didn't need your help.
