You know the first 10 minutes or so of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where Baby Groot dances while the rest of the team battles a giant space squid? That was pretty great. So great that Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 recreated it for its Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 DLC, “Mr. Blue Sky” and all.
While not a note-for-note recreation of the movie’s Abilisk battle, the Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 version hits all the notes, more or less. It opens with Baby Groot hooking up Star-Lord’s sound system to get his Electric Light Orchestra dancing on. At any point during the battle, players can switch over to the tiny tree person, hopping along without a care in the world while everyone else fights for their lives. It’s so adorable.
Liberties have been taken, of course. This is a Lego game, after all. Can’t have Drax slicing his way out of the Abilisk’s stomach, so his daggers are replaced with feathers. Multiple little Lego builds are scattered about the stage, giving each non-dancing character a chance to shine. Rocket can build and activate a drone cannon, while Drax can toss priceless space batteries at the best. And the whole thing is introduced and narrated by Marvel’s latest popular annoyance, Gwenpool. You can watch a quick play-through below.
The entire sequence is over in under ten minutes, but it’s a good ten minutes. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 DLC is now available for $2.99, or free for season pass owners.
