Lay Your Quarter On The Console In Mortal Kombat's King Of The Hill

Back in the day we used to gather around the Mortal Kombat machine at the local arcade, cheering or booing the current set of kombatants as we waited our turn to play. Next week's new Mortal Kombat brings that feeling back with the King of the Hill online mode.

We've seen spectator mode in online fighting games before, but nothing quite like this. As the active players do battle on the screen, your Mortal Kombat or Xbox 360 avatar watches at the bottom of the screen, critiquing the performance like Joel and the bots from Mystery Science Theater 3000.

It's an excellent way of bringing the embarrassment of being judge by your fellow arcade patrons to the online console gaming scene.

Mortal Kombat hits the Xbox 360 and PS3 in North America April 19, Europe on April 21.

Arrogant Bastard

These guys are throwing everything into this game, in true comeback fashion. You can tell they have something to prove, and they're succeeding. Compare everything this game is shaping up to have UPON RELEASE to the relatively bare bones offering that was MvC3 back on Feb 15.

I love playing MvC3, but the better deal is glaringly obvious at this point. Great job NetherRelm Studios.
