To fully appreciate A Song For First-Time Lovers, you need to hear the backstory behind this incredibly chill ode to the acoustic guitar.
There used to be a television show in Korea called We Got Married, where two celebrities would pair up to show their fictional dating life. It was pure fanfiction-bait, but at the same time, there was something wonderfully romantic (in a sort of naive, innocent way) of seeing two people live out the fantasy of the ideal relationship.
One of the most popular couples was Jung Yong Hwa, from the rock band CNBLUE, and Seohyun from Girls’ Generation. They lived out their fictional married life from 2010 to 2011. One of their “missions” during this time — because of course, they couldn’t just do nothing — was to compose a duet song based on their relationship and perform it.
A Song For First-Time Lovers was the result, and it quickly gained popularity beyond the show and the couple’s fanbase. Popular enough, in fact, for them to host a live performance of this song in front of thousands of cheering fans:
Fun fact: the chords are super easy to pick up, making it a good choice for beginner acoustic guitar learners (including yours truly).
