Club Nintendo, Nintendo's members with benefits club, is now asking members for permission to collect data. Just don't say no—if you want to be a member, that is.
According to website MCV, those who turn down Nintendo's request will have their Club Nintendo membership canceled and their redeemable Club Nintendo Stars (think points) lost. This goes into effect on May 31.
Club Nintendo is sending an email to members, alerting them of the changes. Here is an excerpt:
At Nintendo we respect the privacy rights of our online visitors and we recognize the importance of protecting your personal details.
To allow us to implement additional features on our website, to improve our products and to adapt them to our users' needs and preferences, we need your permission to gather information about your online activities on our website and with Nintendo products.
We look forward to seeing you again on our website soon, and hope you will enjoy the new generation in video gaming together with us.
It doesn't sound like Nintendo is actually asking, does it?
