Those scenes are being filmed in Iceland. It's cold up there. Not special effects, post-processing cold. Proper cold.

Last week it was -47 Celsius (-52.6 Fahrenheit) here in Northern Canada. The water there isn't even frozen. For contrast, the ice on our lakes is just over 2 meters thick.
