Happy 20th birthday, Virtua Fighter! Twenty years ago today, the first-ever 3D fighting game hit arcades around the world. As you might imagine, it was massively popular. To mark the occasion, Sega has unveiled a 20th anniversary website where they promise to periodically post news and content related to the series.
Is it just me, or was VF5 a way more subdued release than VF4? I remember there being a lot of hype around VF4 and it wasn't uncommon to hear people call it the best 3D fighting game ever made (if not best fighter ever, bar none) in its heyday. Then VF5 seemed to come out with very little aplomb and I guess people liked it but the hype/praise didn't seem to be on the same level.
