Nintendo’s new super-sized DSi XL portable gaming system hit stores this weekend. One of the device’s key “games” also went on sale: An interactive cook book. We took both for a spin to see how they did.
America’s Test Kitchen: Let’s Get Cooking looks and feels an awful lot like a re-imagining of 2008’s Personal Trainer: Cooking. This time around, though, the digital cookbook has 300 recipes better designed to fit the typical American palate. Or so I’m told.

Much more importantly though, Nintendo touts this as one of the games that proves why having a bigger screen on a bigger portable gaming device is so important. The DSi XL, they say, is designed for more than one person to look at the screen at the same time.
I decided to test out that claim by accepting a little cooking challenge from Nintendo, preparing a full meal from appetizer to dessert with the help of the DSi XL, America’s Test Kitchen and my secret weapon, my 8-year-old son.
Check out Details Magazine and Parents TV’s take on the challenge as well.
P.s. They don’t have a secret weapon.
