When Hironobu Sakaguchi praised an AI slop video of what a Final Fantasy VI remake could look like, he was roundly criticized. Fans and even some of his Square Enix colleagues, like Romancing SaGa director Akitoshi Kawazu, took the creator of the Final Fantasy series aside to explain why everybody hated that. But it seems like he still doesn’t understand what all the fuss was about. In the aftermath of his original tweet praising the video, he’s made another post expressing bewilderment at the strong reaction he got while posting some of his own AI-generated garbage.

“I just intuitively sensed the potential,” he wrote. Sakaguchi explained that according to him, the technology isn’t quite there yet but could be in the future. “It feels like there might be some intriguing stuff waiting down the line,” he wrote. He made this disheartening take worse by including a piece of Lost Odyssey concept art that he hit with the sloppification beam. It’s a short video featuring Grand Staff, a flying research facility. As the ship moves and twists, one of the its structures is slowly compressed, reminiscent of the melting hot-dog fingers prominent in AI-generated video. Seems like Final Fantasy peepaw needs a visit from Batman to explain why we don’t use the weapons of the enemy.
