Geoff Keighley and Hideo Kojima have been besties ever since 2001, and their unbreakable, long-standing bond—that Naruto and Sasuke-esque affection for one another—is an oft-memed topic among the gaming community. However, over the past week, the internet has gotten a little freakier about Kojima and Keighley’s affinity for one another, because rumors are flying that our two favorite gaming dads are getting a “divorce.”

While most have taken this as an opportunity to post silly break-up memes and, in at least one instance, some Kojima x Keighley fanfics, some are digging a little deeper into the two men’s supposed falling out—arguably, a bit too deep. Most of the posts over the past few days seem to have stemmed from this post on June 5, which states that “Kojima has interacted a total of ZERO (0) times with Geoff Keighley’s tweets since the infamous Game Awards gala where Expedition 33 took home GOTY.”

Whether or not that’s true is, as far as the internet is concerned, completely beside the point, because both Keighley and Kojima have clearly decided to have a bit of fun with the charade. For instance, The Washington Post’s Gene Park posted a picture of himself with Kojima on the same day, with a quote reply stating “plz don’t show this to geoff keighley.” Kojima instantly decided to retweet it… twice.

Geoff has been having some fun with it too, and has decided to start replying to a bunch of Kojima’s posts as if he’s cosplaying as someone obsessively longing to get back in touch with an old flame. The internet has yet to pick a side in the divorce, although I have seen several replies instructing Geoff to “never give up” on his one true love.

So, are Kojima and Geoff actually beefing? Did Geoff announcing that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won GOTY instead of Death Stranding 2 really drive a wedge between the two besties? Or was it that homewrecker Miss Piggy? Obviously not, otherwise I doubt they’d be making such a joke out of it. But hey, at least we got some all-timer X posts out of all this.

I just hope they make up in time for the 2026 Game Awards. I mean, it really wouldn’t feel the same without the two awkwardly shuffling around each other as Geoff stares into Kojima’s eyes while his translator third-wheels it on stage.
