We’re just over three weeks away from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and to celebrate, Nintendo today offered a bunch of new details for the upcoming Switch role-playing game, including a spotlight of the combat system and the reveal of a season pass.

In a Nintendo Direct this morning, the publisher showed off a new trailer and took a granular dive into battle mechanics and skills, to the point where it almost felt like we were all reading an instruction manual. In short, this is a JRPG. Just like its predecessors on the Wii and Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has a unique combat system involving swords, arts, and timed attacks.

Nintendo also announced a $30 “expansion pass” for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that includes the following:

I played a few hours of Xenoblade Chronicles X and it wasn’t for me. It felt more like a singleplayer MMORPG than a JRPG, which totally turned me off. On top of that, there was the fact the character design is horrendous, the OST was bad to the point of being unbearable and I found the combat system confusing and overwhelming. Not even the fact that you could pilot huge mechas was enough to make me continue playing it :(

All that said, I’m way more interested in Chronicles 2 because this feels and looks like a proper JRPG.
