Goro Was Much Cooler Before Getting Punched In The Nuts

Gearing up for the release of Mortal Kombat X, Netherrealm Studios has released a trailer featuring four-armed DLC brawler Goro. Yet all I can see is this.

A claymation monster amidst digitized humans in the original Mortal Kombat, it was Goro’s alien nature that made him so intimidating to fledgling fighting game fans. If these were all real actors, then what the hell is that?

He actively frightened me in the arcades. He was intimidating—one of the greatest video game bad guys ever.

Then came the 1995 movie. Mortal Kombat to this day remains one of the best video game movies ever made, but it did several things wrong, one of them Goro. The build up to his reveal, the strange beast lurking in the shadows, that was cool. The suit they built in order to have an actor portray him? That was incredible.

They even had him kill that one disposable guy! How awesome was that?

But when it’s finally time for our major baddie to take on one of the movie’s heroes?

Wah-wahhhh.

One of the most skilled fighters in several different realms is reduced to a nutshot gag. He flails wildly after Johnny Cage and gets kicked off a cliff. At least in the film novelization Goro drops himself from the cliff rather than suffer the indignity of having it done to him.

And now we’ve got a good look at DLC Goro for this month’s Mortal Kombat X.

Nope, I’ve lost that loving feeling.
