Visually speaking, Overwatch is still a real treat. Staying true to the gameplay that made it a hit, it features inspired settings, colorful textures, excellent character design, and sound design that takes immersion to new heights. Building on the original formula, matches are still 5-on-5 battles filled with twists and turns thanks to the characters’ various abilities. In terms of content, it’s once again top-notch, with around forty characters, more than twenty maps, and numerous game modes that keep the experience fresh.

As is typical for this type of game, the experience is completely free, but you can progress faster and treat yourself to cosmetic items through microtransactions. It’s a classic formula, but one that still works. As for the roster, the variety of characters available lets everyone find their niche in the game, whether you like to lead the charge, set up ambushes, or support your team. Overwatch is a game that has managed to transcend generations thanks to constant updates, and seeing it return under its original name with so many promises is sure to excite the fan community. In any case, one thing is certain: the fans have been heard.

Developed by Riot Games (League of Legends), Valorant is a Counter-Strike-style game that pits two teams of five players against each other on different maps. As in Overwatch, characters have special abilities that influence the course of battles. These abilities can be of various types (offensive, defensive, healing, etc.). Just like in Counter-Strike, the goal is to eliminate the opposing team or—depending on your role—to plant a bomb called a Spike and detonate it, or simply defuse it. The game features cartoon-style graphics somewhat reminiscent of Overwatch, even though the gameplay philosophy is slightly different. It’s definitely a game to keep an eye on if you enjoy the genre.

Finally, if you’re going to stick with the Battle Royale genre, you might as well focus on the unbeatable Fortnite. In this game, with its very cartoonish style, players face off on a map that brings together about a hundred participants, and the goal—just like in the Japanese film of the same name—is simply to survive and finish first. What sets Fortnite apart—a game that drew inspiration from PUBG to establish itself—is the ability of players to build actual fortresses to defend themselves or to use elevated positions to ambush the enemy. This “Tower Defense” aspect of the game brings a unique twist that others lack. Otherwise, it’s a fast-paced Battle Royale game enjoyed by millions of players worldwide. It may be getting older, but its success shows no signs of waning.
