To delay the inevitable spread of the plague, Emma can count on Koo, her faithful companion. This large white dog is connected to nature and possesses a power that is essential to his mistress’s survival. Koo has the ability to harness the power of the plague to unleash devastating attacks known as “Blooming Techniques.” It’s almost as if the outside world obeys her, allowing her to defeat her opponents. By combining Koo’s strength and powers with her own, Emma is able to stand up to even the most fearsome enemies. That’s the general overview of the story of Beast of Reincarnation.
Why Should I Play Beast of Reincarnation?
Beast of Reincarnation is a semi-open-world action-adventure game. Combining exploration, combat, and stealth, this Game Freak title follows the conventions of the genre—namely, that players navigate a 3D environment composed of different biomes. Each area hides enemies and bosses that grow increasingly powerful as you progress. Consequently, to stand a chance against these foes, Emma and Koo enhance their skills and abilities using resources they collect along the way. With the exception of a few safe areas, the world of Beast of Reincarnation is corrupted by the plague, which creates mutants known as Infâmes. You must therefore always be on your guard, as danger can strike at any moment—starting with the terrifying Nushi, Malefect bosses.
The plague bears this name because it brought about the downfall of civilization. Humanity was consumed by this corruption and lost a large portion of its territory to forests steeped in the plague. As soon as night falls, these forests emerge and the poison spreads inexorably. Emma and Koo must therefore do everything in their power to repel this organic threat, which is anything but natural. Combat relies heavily on parrying. Far more than a simple dodge, parrying fills an “unsteadiness” gauge on the enemy and allows for the execution of special attacks and Koo’s “Blooming Techniques.” When the creature’s gauge is full, it can unleash devastating assaults. Much of the game revolves around these battles with enemies—some more resilient than others—that require a keen sense of timing.
Exploration isn’t left out, thanks to Emma’s innate abilities. The young woman has a special kind of hair that she can extend at will—a sort of Rapunzel, but with a lot more attitude. She’s also able to instantly leap to wherever her hair catches hold. In addition, she has a grappling hook that lets her move at top speed through the environment. Beast of Reincarnation tries to do a little bit of everything, and it’s true that the whole thing feels a bit disjointed at times. The developers even included a hunger meter that affects the duo’s health. And in the end, that might be the problem with Game Freak’s game: it’s full of good intentions, but it’s showing its age in several ways. Nevertheless, it’s still a pleasure to play if you enjoy this type of game.
