I was just there in November. Great time to go! Why wife and I hiked the whole thing. So many Tori gates!!! So many micro shrines! So many HUGE spiders (they arent in the way though).

The (huge) crowd thins out as you approach the top. The entire path is slightly homogeneous, so many people seem to get their fill by the halfway point of the ascent. There are many little rest stops a few of which sell Vanilla and Grape(!) swirl soft-serve ice cream, a small selection of soups and beer!
