Grand Theft Auto 6′s big 30-minute gameplay reveal yesterday, which is now live on YouTube after premiering on Netflix, featured a lot of content and new details about Rockstar’s upcoming game. One of these new details is GTA 6‘s first confirmed returning character from a prior GTA game. But odds are you don’t even remember this character, even if you did play GTA Online.

In the final minutes of the GTA 6 Extended Look trailer, we see Jason and Lucia take on jobs as bodyguards (and babysitters) for a rich young man and his friends. The woman who hires them is referred to as “Val” by Lucia when meeting up at the airport. Later, when the duo and Val arrive to greet the rich dude as he’s getting off his plane, he refers to Val as “Tina” and hugs her. This seems to indicate that this coordinator is named Valentina. And that’s the same name as a similar-looking woman with a similar voice in GTA Online who also acts as a coordinator for rich people.

As spotted by the GTA Wiki and others, it seems this is the same Valentina first seen in Grand Theft Auto Online’s Money Fronts update, which was added to the game in 2025.

What evidence do we have to prove these are the same Valentina? In GTA Online and GTA 6, she is wearing fancy clothes, a golden necklace, and has moles in the same spot on her face. The leap in fidelity does mean Valentina in GTA 6 looks a lot more realistic and different than the one seen in GTA Online, built on tech first used in an Xbox 360-era game. But the fact that they share the same name, general look, tiny details like facial moles, and serve similar roles seems to make it clear that these are intended to be the same character.

You might wonder: what did Valentina do in GTA Online? Well, she showed up in a cutscene, introduced your character to a rich man named Mr. Faber who has work for you, and then, uh… that was it. She leaves San Andreas the next day. Not the most memorable or important character, but still a GTA character nonetheless.

The different universes of GTA

Valentina is now the first known returning GTA character to pop up in GTA 6. But some of you might be yelling, “Wait, what about Phil Cassidy?!” And yes, someone who looks a lot like that character featured in GTA 3, Vice City, and other 3D-era GTA games can be spotted briefly in GTA 6’s second trailer. But GTA’s universes are separate. 2D-era characters can’t show up in 3D-era games. And 3D-era characters, like Phil, can’t show up in HD-era games, like GTA 6.

Some characters, like radio host Lazlow, exist in different GTA universes, but Rockstar treats these characters as different people who just have similar names, looks, and jobs. It’s weird and silly, but that’s just how this works. So Phil doesn’t count, as he’s not a returning character, just a new version of a past character making their first appearance in the HD universe. Does that all make sense?

Anyway, I doubt Valentina will be the only returning GTA character to pop up in GTA 6. In GTA 5, Packie and Brucie, among other characters, popped up in GTA 5 and GTA Online. So I’d bet a few dollars that other characters from GTA 4 and 5 will show up in GTA 6 either via cameos or with larger roles in the story. We’ll find out who is back when GTA 6 launches in November.
