Drawing Anime Style Characters Just Got Easier

Gif: Pixiv

Pixiv, Japan’s online art community, is rolling out new software to create anime-style 3D models for Windows and Mac.

Dubbed VRoid Studio, the character modeling software is for anime-style avatars for VR or AR apps. Livedoor News reports that the software is free and lets artists easily draw and adjust hair as well as layer textures and different colors on the model.

Check out the software, which goes into open beta at the end of the month, in the clip below:

No word yet about an English language release.

If it’s 3D, I’d say ‘modeling’ is the appropriate term, not ‘drawing’...even if you’re doing it with a Wacom stylus. This looks great though, I’m definitely going to have to check it out. (Even if they try to restrict access to this ‘free’ software, I’m not too worried...I’ve had a Pixiv account since the early days of the site.)
