Have you heard about this big new trend? What’s happening is, people are dressing up in clothes and makeup that make them look like characters from video games and cartoon shows! It’s called Costume Play, and I really believe it’s going to catch on. An initial example of this phenomenon emerges from Fantasy Basel, an annual comic con in Switzerland, and erstwhile photographers Mineralblu captured it on film for the very first time.
I’m sorry, that was just my little joke, and I apologize for any resulting confusion. But what is rather excellent about this latest collection of cosplay fits is just how many are characters I’ve not seen portrayed previously. We’ve got some familiar faces, like FF7‘s Cloud and Sephiroth, as well as The Witcher‘s Ciri, and both are stunning examples. But there’s also an incredible Ornstein outfit from Dark Souls, and the first ever Helldivers cosplay I’ve seen. Plus, and this is maybe my favorite ever, a completely wonderful portrayal of Masters of the Universe‘s Man-at-Arms. God I love that mustachioed hunk. (This is the ’80s Duncan, I should stress, and not the entirely other mustachioed hunk of the forthcoming movie, Idris Elba.)
Below you’ll find the full gallery from Mineralblu, and right at the top there’s a video of the event too.
