A professor in China apparently made his late students write out 1,000 emoticons by hand after being late to class. ┐(‘~`;)┌
As reported on The Straits Times, CNBeta and ShanghaiIst, this went down at the University of Electronic Science and Technology in Chengdu, where one rather strict professor thought this was the best way to deal with tardiness.
CCTV explains that it’s not uncommon for teachers to make late students copy a few lines of text as punishment, but this seems rather extreme, no? According to ShanghaiIst, the reaction online in China ranged from bemusement to criticism over such a seemingly pointless exercise.
