Sometimes something happens in the real world that reminds you that dramatic soap operas and absurd sitcoms aren’t as outrageous as they seem. Call of Duty fans are seeing this firsthand, as long-time competitive shoutcaster Clint “Maven” Evans has announced he is stepping away from the scene after it was revealed that he is now dating his longtime commentating partner Joseph “MerK” DeLuca’s ex-wife, Maurisa.
Evans confirmed his plans to leave Call of Duty shoutcasting “for the foreseeable future” in a Twitter post (thanks, Dexerto), admitting that the relationship was “unconventional/taboo,” but saying that he had been friends with the family long before DeLuca’s divorce, and now it has evolved into something “more” and the two are now in a relationship.
I’ll be stepping away from the CDL for the foreseeable future.
As some of you know, I was very close to my casting partner Joe and his family. Maurisa was one of my best friends. We remained friends, after they divorced, and along the way it became more than that and we started…

Evan’s post doesn’t get into specifics as to whether he was asked to leave by the official Call of Duty League or if he left of his own volition, but he asks for fans to continue supporting the organization and DeLuca. He implies he might be open to coming back to the scene in the future, but also says that might not happen.
This is all weird on its own, but the internet sleuths who have paid attention to DeLuca and Evans’ work together have found some frankly wild online interactions and moments where they were commentating together.

DeLuca doesn’t appear to have commented publicly on the matter, though his social media accounts like Instagram and Twitter have been flooded with both comments of support and also the kinds of rancid internet jokes you’d probably expect.
