DC Comics Bombshells started out as a series of pinup-style variant covers. This summer it’s growing into a statue line, a comic book series, another wave of special covers and starring role in a brand new adventure in DC Universe Online.

Bombshell versions of Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Catwoman, Harley Quinn and Talia al Ghul make their video game debut in a new eight-person operation for DC Universe Online titled “The Bombshells Paradox.” The alternate version of Talia is attempting to alter the outcome of World War II, and it’s up to the players to aid the pinup heroes and set things right.

The new adventure is part of the game’s 15th update, which launches the League of Assassin’s narrative, hence the Talia nod.

Along with the Bombshells, update 15 also continues the “War of Light” storyline, introducing both Black Lanterns and the Indigo Tribe.

Were this three or four years ago I would have totally led with that.

Look for the update to hit the free-to-play DC Comics MMO for PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 this August, around the same time all of DC’s Bombshell goodness drops.

A question for people who know this game well...

I played DCUO for awhile, basically as a solo game, since I’m not really an MMO fan. After I finished the main storyline, it always dumped me out in HQ, and then told me I had to go do... something to continue, I think it involved police headquarters? I could never figure out where it was supposed to be. I wandered around a bit, but everything I found beyond the levels of the main story stuff just trounced me. There was nothing that seemed a usual increment tougher... it went from me easily destroying everything to me having a 50/50 shot of escaping when spotted by the mobs.

Is there a progression area I never found? With a police HQ? Are you required to do group missions to get further along? I enjoyed the single-player experience, but even as a subscriber, I could never figure out how to get to the expansions like the Amazon War and Green Lantern stuff, and the invasion of whatevers across the river seemed geared for group play.
