Valve says Windows 8 is a catastrophe. Blizzard doesn't disagree.

Blizzard executive vice president of game design Rob Pardo says Microsoft's controversial new operating system also isn't great for his company, which makes games like Diablo III and World of Warcraft.

"Nice interview with Gabe Newell - 'I think Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space* - not awesome for Blizzard either," Pardo wrote on Twitter earlier this week.

Stardock also denounced Windows 8 in an editorial on this site earlier this year. That's three of the biggest companies in PC gaming all down on the operating system, which will be out this October. Not a great sign for Microsoft.

I get the whole schizophrenic part with Windows 8 wanting to be a tablet-friendly OS, and still also working as the more familiar OS could cause some issues...but I'm really not seeing the catastrophe thing here.

What is SO bad about this OS that has these companies speculating it will completely fail? All I see is some minor inconveniences navigating certain things, but looking at some of the apps for the OS on videos, I actually see some nice organization for stuff like news, social networking features (if you're into that), e-mail, and other base features people use a computer for.

The 2 weird things I'll either have to get used to or change (through companies we know will offer programs to go to retro windows UI) are the start menu, and the desktop being a tile on the metro interface you have to click to get to regular windows.

Are there really any other big issues that are hurting this OS to run things like Steam or Blizzard's games? I'm just not seeing the big issue here.
