Black Myth: Wukong may not technically be a soulslike game, but it shares a lot of DNA with the genre. That includes needing various upgrade materials, necessary for keeping your weapons in tip-top shape as you reach increasingly harder baddies. And for six particular sets of armor, the material you’ll need is silk. Silk armor? Ask a spider.

What is Silk used for in Black Myth: Wukong?

Silk is a necessary component for crafting six unique armor sets. If you’re going for all of the trophies or achievements in the game, you’ll definitely want to craft all of them—and it’s not a bad idea to have them all around in general, as their unique effects can be very useful in specific situations.

Here are the sets you’ll craft using Silk:

  • Bronze Set
  • Ebongold Set
  • Galeguard Set
  • Insect Set
  • Loongscale Set
  • Ochre Set

But you’ll need to find Silk before you can craft any of them, so let’s help you with that.

Silk is useful for a lot of your early-game upgrades, which means that it’s rather scarce in the opening hours of the game. However, it will become much more plentiful once you reach Chapter 2, as it begins dropping reasonably often from specific enemies. Here’s where you can round up Silk the best in each of the first two chapters of Black Myth: Wukong.

Where to get Silk in Chapter 1

In the first chapter of the game, you can only purchase two Silk from the shop at the Secret: Ancient Guanyin Temple shrine, once you’ve unlocked that area by ringing the three bells throughout the chapter. Don’t worry though, as you’ll be able to properly farm this material once you reach the next chapter.

Chapter 2 provides you with plenty of enemies who can drop Silk. Most notably, the small, standard rat foes everywhere throughout this chapter have a reasonable chance at dropping the material for you. Even better, there are multiple shrines with plenty of these meanies hanging around, so by the time you play through the chapter at a normal pace, you should get most of the Silk you need for your initial upgrades. If you need more, just farm these guys until you’ve crafted everything you want.

Unlimited Silk!

Later in the game, when you’ve unlocked the main hub known as the Zodiac Village, you can purchase unlimited Silk from Yin Tiger—he’s the big tiger wailing on an anvil in the back of the area. Of course, this late in the game, you’re not likely to really need Silk anymore, but it’s nice to have at your disposal if you do.
