I think the break thresholds are pretty insane already. I don’t recall if I’ve ever broken specific parts before the last stage of the fight. Given that break thresholds are kinda BS when scaled for multiplayer, it would be an incredibly shitty thing to do. Read more

Rotten Vale and Vaal Hazak are probably my favorites in the game. The recent addition of Kulve Taroth is especially good, especially how each phase ramps up the pace of it to match the escalating danger. The final phase also has a bit of Zinogre’s theme to it. Read more

Call me a freak but the only tune that really got me from FFVII was the Highwind’s theme (when you get the airship). Aerith’s death wasn’t so strong to me, but I think it was because I played VII quite late, about in 2005 or something. Read more

I agree! This is why I believe the combination of scenery, music and events is what made FFVII to be so great. The game had this weird thing that made even mundane elements like places and npcs to get a life of their own based on music and visual ques alone. Read more

EarthBound is my favorite game of all time, and I don’t make comparisons of writing quality between it and other games lightly. That said, the game gave me serious EarthBound vibes the entire way through. Read more

Just a few notes of that piece, and I can see Red XIII learning the truth about his father—how, all alone, he held the breach against the Gi, saving his wife, his son and the entire tribe by holding the Gi at bay long enough for the caves to be sealed
