It's likely due to the 360's unified RAM structure (512mb pooled for system and vram). The PS3 has the same total amount, but it's split so developers can't allocate it as they like. I think that's why there were some issues with Skyrim and other games on the PS3. Read more

I'm by no means a tech guru, but the PS3's cell architecture is quite a bit different from the 360, which is pretty much just a standard PC. Sony went a more conventional route with the PS4 in an effort to make things easier for developers and hopefully get more games. Read more
