How about instead of killing the line up they sell off the almost already finished titles and IP deals. As far as I know no one can make a 40k game without THQ's blessing, there is probably someone out there that wants to but couldn't and probably wouldn't mind starting off with a mostly finished game. If they really liked their fans and themselves they would upgrade their tools... Hammer hasn't changed much since Half Life1 and the way they force you to build and edit shaders is crazy insane. Read more

That's one of the more honest and in depth reviews I've read. Thanks for taking the time to write that up. Read more

How was I being a dick? I poked him in the ribs a little trying to get him to acknowledge the other HALF of the contest and he goes and spits on their hard work by dismissing it? Most of the people who made stages are industry pros, that he just backhanded... Nice... Read more

Now playing

It would be awesome to see some of the stages too, some of those are awesome. But I guess if it doesn't have tits it's not news worthy around here...

Wow, lighten up some of the stages where really impressive. No need to be a dick and yank someones star away. Read more

Of course you guys didn't show any stages... nice way to ignore the other half of the contest. Read more

I would love homebrew functionality on on the PS3, I would love it if they sold dev kits at a reduced rate to customers to make their own games. Read more

He's pointing to a model that really might not work for everyone. Waiting until the 3-4th game to make your money back on your first? That's pretty dicey. Hoping to convince someone to buy your next game when they didn't pay for the first, is a pretty tough sell. Read more

On a handful of PC games where they've tried to break new DRM ground and gotten a lot of heat back, sure. But that doesn't cover the majority of PC games that don't go that extreme, the consoles or the hand held games. Read more

If you have the means to pirate and play games... you're probably not that bad off especially in the realm of PC games, where the games demand some pretty pricey hardware. Read more

Great just what people need, another excuse not to pay for the content they consume. I agree that the way publishers treat paying customers in an effort to combat piracy is pretty crappy and frustrating. But if someone is going to play the game, then they should help fund its development and if they aren't willing to Read more

This is why his analogy to Thomas Paine's book doesn't work. People borrowed the books from friends then returned them. all the while the owner not being able to read or lend to the book to others would apply pressure to the borrower to return the book. Other people waiting for the book still being unable to read it Read more

Also you say Gamasutra but then don't provide a link. Either you got your links crossed or Gamasutra never ran something like that? It seems like you sought to give it more creditability than it actually has. So which is it, crappy reporting or flagrant PT Barnum style wrangling to get people in the door? Read more

@edhe: Yep and I choose not to work at places that treat full time salaried employees as a disposable workforce. I haven't lived through that cycle but I have friends that have. Read more

@edhe: According to people at Junction Point, they where given a target of 1.4 million units sold in Dec. If they hit that number bonuses would be paid out. The threshold for it to make back what they spent, was lower. The game in no way was a failure, yet they cut people lose and denied bonuses. Read more

@edhe: yea I guess I agree to a point. It just seems like "this is our biggest success ever, oh but we'll call it a failure so we can hand out pink slips instead of bonuses." I can sort of go along with the no bonuses if that is what was agreed upon, seems like a reduced bonus for getting there a week or two later Read more
