i agree with this. I spent more time with wildlands than originally intended to. It’s fun in the same way that taking down outposts in other open world games are but doesn’t punish you for not being a the best at it either. Shooting down unaware patrolling helicopters with a .50 cal sniper rifle might be my new zen… Read more
As someone who loves Splinter Cell and considers them (or, at least, the first three) to be the very pinnacle of stealth gameplay, for shame. I used to spend so much time back in the day just watching Sam Fisher flip those goggles down and then put them back up. Just flip them down and put them back up, flip them down… Read more
Wholeheartedly agree about the felt absence of AI team customization. My guess is that Ubi just didn’t think it was worth the time and resources considering most players would focus on multiplayer and never (or rarely) see the AI team. I play exclusively singleplayer though and the team feels like a missed… Read more
I think the game is great. It’s a nice romp with quick strategic action, which I enjoy when I want something more immediately satisfying than Arma 3 (Arma 3 is my jam, but GRW gets you straight into things and is easy as hell to learn the controls on, which I do appreciate). Read more
Except that it’s impossible for PvP and PvE to feel consistent if they aren’t independently tuned. They are fundamentally different activities that may as well be considered two separate entities within the same game. They’ve been using that same excuse for as long as people have thought of it as an important issue.… Read more
It took Blizzard how many Wow expansions to finally admit they need to separate PvP and PVE balancing? I wish Bungie would do the same. The game itself has such an easy explainer in there. Read more
If they did exactly what players wanted, it would ruin the game. Raid Matchmaking was a terrible idea. Imagine getting 4 guys wanting to do what is needed and then 2 idiots not listening? Most PUGs, that’s game over. Odds of getting 6 guys who wanted to talk and use strategy was next to none. Read more
I agree. It seems like Bungie is tripping over themselves trying to balance PvP (potentially for esports use like every other goddam game these days?), at the expense of PvE. I thought Destiny’s Crucible was fine, but the bread and butter of Destiny has always been the PvE content. I don’t think anyone would have any… Read more
While I understand what they’re going for when Bungie says they’re trying to offer a matchmaking-style that’s consistent with how Bungie wants the game to be played, that’s exactly what bothers me about it. It’s entirely up to Bungie to make the game they want, but I’m not a fan of being told “this is how we think you… Read more
So far, the only thing I’m not excited for in Destiny 2 is the new loadout schema. I echo your sentiments, Kirk, that it works well for PvP but will be absolute shite for PvE. My typical PvE loadout is Pulse Rifle, Fusion Rifle, Rocket Launcher. Maximum effort, maximum damage. Sometimes I’ll swap for an Auto… Read more
Finally, Kirk’s thoughts! Very much appreciated this :) I’m really, really glad to hear that the strike was the best thing you played. Very interesting that shade step is now a class-wide ability for Hunters, which is pretty cool. Read more
I skipped Destiny on the PS4 because no matter how I try, I can’t do FPS with a gamepad. Read more
Had been looking forward to a new Giant Sparrow title for a long time. Edith Finch didn’t disappoint. I thought the game pushed the boundaries of how we experience storytelling in video games. The joy and then agony of Gregory in the bathtub... arghhh. Read more
I really enjoyed how the game approached the topic of mortality in general. Usually, it’s something that none of us want to think about, yet is so glaringly obvious in our everyday lives. However, Giant Sparrow was able to use this game as a subtle exploration of the topic by placing you in a reality where your… Read more
