Also the narrator sounds a little bit like Sarah Koenig, which is just fine by me. Read more

Agree. I mean, I'd say that GTA V has the most impressive sound design I've ever heard in a game, flat-out. Red Dead was perhaps more artful, but in terms of sheer volume, mix, 3D position, atmosphere... GTA V is just astonishing. Read more

I very much agree about the sound design in this game - I actually even wrote a post about it, back in my dot.blogspot.com days. I love how they integrated the game's sound design with the dynamic score so that the line between music and ambient audio became blurred. I used to just put on surround headphones, go out Read more

For the record: I will take literally any opportunity to post screenshots of dead Far Cry 4 eagles on Kotaku. Read more

I would say yes. At the very least, watch the show. The game feels designed for fans of the show/books, and it'd probably be an odd entry point for newcomers. Read more

I should say that I had some serious reservations about mentioning winter in my lede, because all the other hacks out there will doubtless do the same thing. But eventually I decided, well, fuck it. Read more

Yeah, I don't hate the K&M controls either, though I mostly play with a controller. That said, after going back and playing Origins a bit, I can see why people would prefer that setup—it'd be nice to be able to click on things and go interact with them, rather than needing to walk over first. I also get the sense that Read more

The cost for materials is 10 vanguard/crucible marks for a bushel of 20. (It doesn't look like the faction vendors are selling materials.) Not a terrible price, considering that at this point I have nothing else to spend my marks on—I've been maxed out for weeks.

1) I really liked this article! Fun stuff, and a lot of good analysis. I haven't replayed HL in a little while, but when I think of the game, there are a few specific sequences that stick out. Turns out, a lot of them come from this one level, which certainly says something about its quality. Read more

Yeah, like I said up above, we'd love to do that more often. It takes a ton of time, unfortunately - it's not a matter of simply hitting a reset button. We (it's usually just me) have to go through and manually dismiss hundreds/thousands of comments for each post, which can take hours. Read more

Yeah, I don't feel all that hyperbolic about it either. The stutter is annoying, but in a lot of ways (most ways, really) the PC version of FC4 is very good. Read more

That's good to hear. DF said they found the stutter with AMD cards as well, but wouldn't it just figure if this Nvidia-optimized game was WORSE with Nvidia? Read more

Yeah, I noticed that, too. It's partly because it looks like they used male animations for all characters in cutscenes, and also because all the protagonists just kinda hunch sometimes. Maybe the invisible magnets that hold the weapons on their backs are heavier than we think! Read more

Ha. I've seen some excellent ultra-ugly Heralds around the internet, hopefully some readers share theirs. Read more

Ha. No trolling, just using Stephen's language to achieve lede sentence parity. Because parity, as we all know, is important. Read more

Yeah, Malukah! I thought it sounded like her as well. I actually asked who it was, and PR said they'd check but I haven't heard back yet. Read more
