“I have a 13-month-old son, and my wife and I have laid down some basics boundaries ...And no Elmo merchandise... for all intents and purposes, Elmo products are banned.” Read more
I found out today that my wife is pregnant. We’ve been talking about stuff like this most of the day. We both grew up on Sesame Street; we both came to the same conclusion you did about Elmo merchandise. It’s safe to say that was the only easy decision we’ve managed so far. Read more
Elmo has never had a moment that has made me get misty or shed tears. However, things like this were common in the pre-Elmo-dominated era (and still cause tears to well up):
I agree with everything you have said, but I confess: three kids in, and I finally caved to the cult of Elmo. My third son has an Elmo doll, and at his birthday, we played “Place the Nose on Elmo.” He also has a Super Grover toy (version 1.0, thank you very much Sesame Street “new and improved” marketing team), and… Read more
You’re not alone in this, Kevin.
I remember as a kid hating how Elmo was gradually taking over the show and less and less of other monsters were getting to show up. My favorite Muppet on the show as Grover and he got pushed out pretty hard for more Elmo skits. I think I gave up caring about Seaseme Street after attending one of those Live! shows that… Read more
Things like this are one of the biggest reasons I get the majority of my gaming news here. My focus is telling the truth about games for readers, whether that’s the external truth that reporters discover or that more internal subjective truth about how a critic feels about… Read more
A long time ago, I read a book written by Nancy Spungeon’s mom. That girl was born bat-shit crazy. She also published letters she received from Sid Vicious while he was in jail, and the letters were shockingly sweet and eloquent. It was a really good book. Read more
The photographer actually did a really good job of pulling out details without washing the subjects out. It’s not easy to take pictures of people in the dark while still capturing the darkness around them. Read more
I know this is an old article so I doubt anyone will see this, but I’m a huge Calvin and Hobbes fan and had heard several times where Watterson had talked about the huge influence Peanuts had on his work. As a child of the 90s, this never jived with me. I thought maybe he was an influence in the way certain bands… Read more

I enjoyed this insightful and heavily researched piece. It’s a perfect example of how, if one wades through enough bullshit, something cool will be found eventually. I’m mostly getting that Peanuts got hit with the Urkel Syndrome, and I agree with that. However, while I do believe that characters should definitely… Read more
